We are pleased to further enrich the conference program with the inclusion of international speakers Gail Gilman, Oona Goldsworthy and Chris Paris in key conference sessions.

Gail Gilman, Chief Executive Officer of Community Housing Partnership in the USA, joins us for major concurrent session Homelessness in 2017: is early intervention and prevention working? This session will examine how well Australia’s homelessness system has transformed from crisis response, to early intervention and prevention and how Australia’s system compares to the US.

With over 25 years of non-profit experience, Gail joined CHP in 2002 and became the CEO in 2010. Gail has been extensively involved in regional and national public policy efforts, including as Co-Chair of numerous ballot initiatives from a housing bond to revenue measures for homelessness. Gail has served on numerous housing and homeless taskforces, and presently serves on the board of the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California.

Also joining #NHCSydney is Oona Goldsworthy, Chief Executive of housing association United Communities. Oona will participate in the session Australia vs England – tenant choice. In the spirit of friendly rivalry, this session pits Australia against England as experts debate which country better engages tenants to offer true choice in respect to their housing needs.

Oona was voted the Woman of the Year at the Bristol and Bath Women of the Year Awards 2017, and in her 20 year career in social housing she continues to champion housing rights.

Facilitating the Locally made: affordable housing and local government session is Emeritus Professor, Chris Paris. Local governments are increasingly concerned about the lack of affordable housing within their jurisdictions. This session explores how the local government sector can best contribute to the provision of affordable housing, through a number of case studies.

With more than 25 years’ experience in the housing sector, Chris brings extensive experience as a Professor of Housing Studies for the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland and a Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide.

We welcome Gail, Oona and Chris as they join international keynote speakers Evan Siddall and Piers Williamson at the National Housing Conference.
