The Descendance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre was established in Sydney in 1993. Descendance grew out of the original dance troupe, Ngaru Dance Company. Ngaru means ‘shake a leg’, a dance style prevalent in the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.
In 2000, the group changed their name to Descendance as a way to reflect and honour the many artists from diverse tribes who had joined the company.
Since its inception, Descendance has toured over 40 countries and performed at many international festivals and events. Their distinctively energetic styles will be an exciting addition to #NHCSydney.
