The Sydney Street Choir is a supportive musical community that aims to inspire and empower those who have experienced hardship or disadvantage by providing them with a therapeutic musical program promoting social skills, independence and self-management. Through passionate and honest expression, they have inspired audiences around Australia with their uplifting performances.
Formed in 2001, the choir keeps a busy rehearsal and performance schedule, including tours to the Northern Territory, Melbourne and regional NSW. They have recorded a number of CDs, have created three original theatre projects and performed with celebrities such as Dami Im, Deni Hines, Angry Anderson, Leo Sayer and others.
The aim of the choir is ‘to connect with, inspire and empower those who are living or working in homeless or disadvantaged communities through creating music, performance and passionate expression that truly opens people’s hearts.’ It is, in essence, a music therapy program, often making the difference between isolation and interaction.
