Chris joined the Northern Territory Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development in early 2012 and has held a number of positions, including leading the delivery of public housing across the greater Darwin region, negotiating national partnership agreements and most recently leading the strategy, operational policy, performance monitoring and business intelligence teams. Recent achievements of the teams include development of the first Northern Territory Homelessness Strategy, development of a needs analysis tool to inform remote housing investment based on reducing overcrowding, and securing new funding to support young people who have left out of home care with subsidised housing and initiatives to support homeless rough sleepers across the Darwin region.
Chris has a strong service delivery background with a particular focus on Aboriginal policy and programs. Prior to her appointment with Housing, Chris was a Director with the Australian Government Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations where she led teams responsible for the delivery of childcare, employment, youth, adult literacy and school education programs across the Northern Territory.
Previous to this, Chris worked for five years with the NT Department of Education with a focus on Aboriginal education policy and program development, and for eight years with NT Correctional Services as the Director of Prisoner Education and Therapeutic Programs. Chris’ career began in the horticultural research discipline where she spent almost 14 years working on various projects across Australia.
Chris has a Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma in Education and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Management.
