Dr Chris Martin

Dr Chris Martin is a research fellow at City Futures Research Centre, UNSW Sydney, where he specialises in rental housing. His recent research investigates private rental sector institutions in Australia and internationally (the AHURI Inquiry in the Future of Private Rental), social housing transfers and the affordable housing industry (the AHURI Inquiry into Affordable Housing Industry capacity), the emergence of Build to Rent (for NSW Landcom), and social housing legal responses to crime and anti-social behaviour (the AHURI Inquiry into Integrated Housing Support for Vulnerable Families).

With qualifications in economics, law and criminology, Chris joined City Futures in 2015 after 15 years in the tenant advocacy sector, where he was the senior policy officer of the Tenants’ Union of NSW.
