Elana Turner

Coordinator - Employment, Education and Housing Program, UnitingSA

 Elana Turner

Elana is a proud Narungga woman from South Australia

Some years ago Elana took up an opportunity to take part in an Indigenous Employment Program. Elana then went on to complete a Certificate III in Community Services, while working in retail and raising two children.

Working as an Aboriginal Support Worker with UnitingSA’s Building Family Opportunity program, Elana worked with complex families within the Youth Justice System. In 2015 this led to her current role – Coordinator with UnitingSA’s Employment, Education and Housing Program.

Elana has been instrumental in developing this program which helps families relocate from remote and regional areas in South Australia. The big move to the City comes with the challenge of living in two worlds. With a stable platform of housing, people are able to undertake employment, education or training or are supported to access to schooling and a vast range of medical and other appropriate services.

Elana sees the drive amongst the lovely families she works with and walks alongside. She is proud of their achievements having taken a leap and stepping out of their communities to take on city life.
